Locum'd as an Medical HMO at this site in 2020 - pre-covid. - Accomodation - was put into new apartments walking distance from the hospital. Newly built and nice with air-conditioning and wifi. - Team - HMO resident on the Gen Med team. Physicians leading the team were approachable and friendly. Note at the time other medical teams were led by GPs (more complex patients given to physician led team). Day job helps admit patients and do usual resident work (note no registrar). Late shift involves admitting patients as well as helping with jobs from other teams (eg. surgical admissions etc). Sometimes asked to help in ED with clerking patients when very busy on evenings. - Fair workload - can be busy at times but not overwhelming. - Overall quite a good experience and would return to work again. - Pay was facilitated through locum agency but was paid within normal timeframe.

This placement was great for my first time as a locum! I slotted in as a gen med RMO for an RG led team managing low acuity medical inpatients - helping out with the ward round and standard medical jobs. A good vibe around the hospital with lots of friendly and helpful staff. I stayed in a motel halfway between the hospital and main part of town. Tuesday night steak special at the pub was delicious and lunches at the hospital were cheap and nice. 4 hour train ride from Melbourne was super easy.

Horrible experience. Cheap accomodation that's not particularly close to the hospital, but it's not horrible either. The hospital is woefully understaffed, consultants doing 48 hour ED shifts. Being left alone as a resident in the ED overnight with no other doctors on call except a medical reg who was covering the wards. Rude and bullying ED nurses, admin didn't want to pay me once I left and rude GPs who 'run' the hospital with dangerously lazy decision making processes.
