Working at Queanbeyan was great! During the day, the shifts were like typical gen med RMO shifts with a ward round and then completing jobs afterwards. For the evening and night shifts, you are on the wards by yourself, with a senior doctor in ED for help if needed. Overall, was a good learning experience for me at PGY3 but with support available when needed.
Loved this placement overall, definitely recommend, the hospital is so friendly, the nurses and other doctors are kind and supportive and happy to help. It is a busy hospital but manageable workload. Working with ACRRM/RACGP-RG consultants and with other locum RMOs (most of whom have worked there for years). They use PowerChart and FirstNet; medications are electronic as well. The main referral hospital is The Canberra Hospital, 20 mins away. The accommodation is super close and convenient and spacious but not particularly modern/the kitchen utensils are lacking a bit so I would suggest bringing a knife and frying pan. Has aircon and heating and is cleaned every day if you wish though. Recommend going to a Raiders home game, checking out the wine bars in the city/Londsdale St and climbing Booroomba rocks!!
