Background: Locum ED SRMO Feb-Mar 2020, nights Unhappy welcome to the department for my first shift, no orientation or hello, consultant handed a patient file and said 'you the locum? here's your first patient', and that set the scene for the way the department is run. Difficulty getting assistance from nurses to give meds or do an ECG, ended up drawing up and giving IV meds to my patients myself. Chaotic system of mixed paper notes, pathology and imaging all on different systems. Wait room full all night with for the most part minimal support from the reg IC - system seems to encourage them to oversee the 1 intern, resident and SRMO on overnight and take on minimal patient load. Accommodation nice in Belconnen if they're still doing it there, but I would never go back.

ED RMO 2022. Difficult staffing environment driven by low budget. Poor facilities and introduction/orientation non existent. Despite this, the team I was with were collegiate and enjoyable to work with. I would come back for more given the above. Mixed paper/computer(EDIS) based system takes a few hours to get used to but path and imaging are quick and efficient. Accomodation was reasonable at a lower tier 4-star hotel.

I stayed in and Air BnB, it was nice and clean. Close to bus stop and short walk to the hospital. I was there the two weeks before the hospital transitioned from paper to digital records. Therefore some online systems that they were using were being phased out so it took a bit to get access to some since IT was more focused on getting the new system ready but was able to get other doctors to order imaging since I never got access to order imaging on the computer.
