My placement at OPERA at Lyell McEwin was really fun! It was my first locum placement as a PGY3. The staff were all so welcoming and helpful. There was always a consultant present, with nurse consultants, nurse practitioners and allied health staff. OPERA had only recently opened a few weeks before my placement, so the patient load was quite minimal, but it provided a great learning opportunity and Segway into life as a locum! I had EMR sunrise training the day before I started which was a bit hard to get my head around at first, but I felt very supported. I had to seek out my own temporary staff access card as I didn’t have one provided to me on arrival. I did have to find my own accommodation and the options were a bit limited, but the commute was very short and overall it was great! I was lucky enough to be able to visit the famous Henley beach on 30+ degree days to unwind
