In Traralgon, Latrobe Regional Hospital plays an important role as a 251-bed public hospital. It handles a substantial case mix across acute and inpatient care, with strong exposure to emergency presentations, general medicine, surgery and a wide range of hospital-based services. As part of Latrobe Regional Hospital, it offers the chance to step into a well-supported multidisciplinary team and contribute to a busy service with plenty of clinical variety. Away from work, Traralgon offers a relaxed regional lifestyle with local cafes, scenic drives and a strong sense of community, plus easy opportunities to explore more of Victoria.
Accomodation will depend entirely on if they put you in the Century in (not bad) or Bundoora (bad, no internet). Beyond this staff are generally nice. Early 2021 I did some ED shifts that were woefully understaffed and dangerous, but they make an effort to always have a consultant on call even if they leave two PGY2 running the ED overnight. Since then things have improved dramatically but not sure how long it will last. Ward work is easy.
