At the heart of Griffith, Griffith Hospital is a public hospital with a strong local focus. It handles a substantial case mix across acute and inpatient care, with strong exposure to emergency presentations, general medicine, surgery and a wide range of hospital-based services. As part of Murrumbidgee, it offers the chance to step into a well-supported multidisciplinary team and contribute to a busy service with plenty of clinical variety. Beyond the hospital, Griffith brings a slower regional pace, open space and a genuine community feel, with plenty to enjoy across the surrounding part of New South Wales.
Spent two months here in early 2020. Day/evening shifts as an SRMO in ED + covering wards (never much to do there). Well supported, friendly department with specialties easy to contact and helpful (the Orthopod came in his trackies one evening with his elderly next-door neighbour who'd fallen). Accommodation marked down, as was initially put in a not-too-clean share house with people who had been living there for a year - it was a tiny room, and it felt like I was invading another's home. Got moved to a nice new unit, an easy 5 min walk from the hospital, sharing intermittently with other short term locums. Easy walk to the town swimming pool (you need it in summer!) and town has enough shops to get what you need. Lots of great Italian food and make sure to visit Altina wildlife park just down the road!
