Description

Welcome to the Royal Hobart Hospital, the beating heart of healthcare in Tasmania's charming capital, Hobart. Nestled at the edge of the Derwent River, this premier medical institution is not only Tasmania's largest but also one of the oldest teaching hospitals in Australia, boasting a rich history that dates back to 1804. With 500 beds and a wide range of medical and surgical specialties, Royal Hobart Hospital is the cornerstone of community health care for the residents of Hobart and beyond.

The hospital features leading departments in cardiology, oncology, and neurosurgery, along with state-of-the-art intensive care units and emergency facilities. As a tertiary referral center, it also caters to complex cases across Tasmania, ensuring comprehensive, round-the-clock care.

But life isn't all scalpels and stethoscopes – Hobart offers plenty to see and do on your days off. Just a short stroll from the hospital, you'll find Sullivan’s Cove, a bustling waterfront precinct lined with vibrant cafes, top-notch restaurants, and buzzing bars. Here, savor fresh Tasmanian seafood at the famous Salamanca Market or explore contemporary art at the much lauded Museum of Old and New Art (MONA). If you're in the mood for adventure, nearby Mount Wellington offers stunning panoramic views of the city and invigorating bushwalks.

The city does not skimp on cultural events either. Time your relocation right and you might just catch the renowned Dark Mofo festival, famous for its bold art installations and winter solstice swim. Alternatively, the Taste of Tasmania food festival is the place to be for gourmet delights and local vinos.

Travelling here is a breeze! Fly into Hobart International Airport from any major Australian city and it's just a 20-minute drive to the heart of Hobart, right where the Royal Hobart Hospital stands proudly. For those who enjoy a sea voyage, there's the Spirit of Tasmania ferry service that operates between Melbourne and Devonport – from Devonport, it’s a leisurely 3-hour drive through Tasmania's scenic landscapes to reach Hobart.

In the Royal Hobart Hospital, you'll find more than just a workplace; you'll discover a community, a lifestyle, and a unique blend of urban and natural beauty that makes Tasmania an enchanting place to call home. Whether you are a seasoned doctor or just beginning your medical career, we bet working at Royal Hobart Hospital will not only advance your professional life but also provide you with an unforgettable living experience.

Enjoyed my time in Hobart ED. Busy with lots of bed block, but good mix of cases and supportive FACEMs. Hybrid paper-digital system with digital notes and lab results but paper obs/med charts. Referral system entirely through med tasker app on mobile devices. Accomodation as good as anywhere I’ve worked. They are flexible in allowing you to book a nearby aparthotel or Airbnb. Hobart city and surrounding suburbs are delightful to spend days off. Lots of cosy cafes and bakeries and restaurants from fine dining to casual eats.

I worked in O+G for 6 weeks and had a great time. Supportive team and great learning experience. It can get quite busy on labour ward and there’s often opportunities for practical skills like suturing / implanon insertion / US etc. Very nice facilities but strange design and hard to find a sense of direction around the hospital.
