Overall I enjoyed this placement - the team were great and I felt overall well supported by the bosses! The role was originally advertised as a Gen Surg RMO role so I was expecting more of a ward based role, however when it was more of an unaccredited Gen Surg reg job, so definitely an unexpected step up - something to be aware of! The accomodation provided was excellent, a beautiful 3 bedroom house in Somerset, 10 minutes drive from the hospital. There is plenty to do around Burnie - highly recommend Boat Harbour beach, Penguin and Stanley which are within an hour drive of Burnie. The North West coast is stunning, and great for people who appreciate the outdoors!

I enjoyed my week in Burnie for an Ortho RMO job - good workload and well supported by registrars. Having worked in THS before had no issues from a system point of view but some of the pathways for organising imaging or getting records can be a bit clunky and confusing. The accomodation options are excellent, was put up in a gorgeous private house 10 minutes walk from the hospital! Lots of cool things to see around Burnie but definitely need a car to get around so recommend asking for car hire as part of the placement. Best things to do include: runs along the foreshore, day/weekend trip to Cradle Mountain, day trips to Wynyard/Table Cape, Stanley or any of the stunning nearby hikes. During the summer a swim at Boat Harbour beach is a must-do!
