Found in Kalgoorlie, Kalgoorlie Hospital is a 119-bed public hospital delivering care within its wider health network. The hospital offers a solid range of acute services, giving locums exposure to emergency work, general inpatient care, perioperative activity and multidisciplinary ward-based practice. As part of WA Country Health Service, it offers the chance to step into a well-supported multidisciplinary team and contribute to a busy service with plenty of clinical variety. In your downtime, Kalgoorlie brings a slower regional pace, open space and a genuine community feel, with plenty to enjoy across the surrounding part of Western Australia.
Worked in ED as a registrar. Really supportive team. Well staffed with a Med reg and surf reg who come in overnight to admit patients. Good mix of pathology. And I really liked the town- lots of interesting places in town and nearby to explore. *put 3 for accomodation only because I sourced my own so don’t know what the hospital one is like.
There is zero support in this hospital in any positions outside of ED. The hospital is run by locum doctors. Psychiatry is particularly bad. The medical and surgical teams are left with piles of paperwork from past overworked teams and lack leadership and support. Registrars are given very little theatre time as they only have staffing for one theatre and want cases done quickly. Not a good place for any locum, consultant down. If you are looking for a massive challenge and potentially providing an awesome service to the Goldfields then think full-time 5 years and you might make a dent on the problems.
