Description
MGDHS is a 107-bed hospital, providing emergency medicine, general medical and surgical care, anaesthetics, outpatient services, day surgery, palliative care, HDU, psychiatry, orthopaedics (including rehabilitation), stroke services, obstetrics, gynaecology, paediatrics, vascular, ear/nose and throat (ENT), plastics, gastroenterology, nephrology, ophthalmology, cardiology and a cardiac rehabilitation program.

2022
I did four weeks in ED. Supportive and approachable consultants. Often short in nursing staff but the permanent NS was always helpful. Workload manageable. Accomodation while dated was very clean and tidy.
2026
I completed a brief 4-day stint under a General Medicine team (there are 4 total). All the other residents and interns were very welcoming and helpful. The workload was similar to any General Medicine team, 15-20 patients per team. The consultants were lovely. I have worked with the sunrise eMR system before which was useful! Definitely recommend the role to others - only consideration is, there are no reg's, and depending on your consultant will depend on how many patients they will see with you. I often ended up rounding on most of the patients myself, but my consultant was always easily contactable should I have a question. There are many great things to explore and see in the Mount - lots of great cafes and coffee spots, great hikes/walks, particularly around the Blue Lake. The local gallery also often has some great exhibitions on display. There are several different beaches only 30mins away as well, including surf beaches!
