Description
The attractions in and around Tamworth are varied and many, from the Big Golden Guitar to Wrights lookout tower providing amazing views of the town and surrounding countryside. There are also great restaurants like Flutes on offer, as well intown night life venues like Chapel Bar & Dining. All these factors make Tamworth an attractive destination for a locum doctor looking for work outside the city.
In terms of outdoor activities there is no shortage things to do in or near Tamworth either with good fishing spots along the Peel River, beautiful bush walks through Bicentennial Park and Oxley Lookout providing stunning panoramic views of the area on clear days. For those wanting something less strenuous there plenty golf courses nearby too. All of this makes Tamworth a great place if you’re looking to take up some locum roles outside your normal working commitments.
Finally, it’s worth mentioning that as well being centrally located between Brisbane& Sydney- two major Australian cities - making it relatively easy to get to. Once you land a job at Tamworth Hospital you will find they have 175 beds available plus providea wide range medical & surgical services which would suit any qualified doctor wanting try locum work.

I had quiet night shifts and busy days/evening shifts. Manageable overall. Very well supported by consultants. Clinical applications portal (CAP) to access patient data, pathology and radiology. MedChart for medications. Need to do the online training (about 2 hours worth) for CAP and MedChart before starting in order to get access to them (necessary for clinical work). I stayed in a nice (but old) airbnb 20mins walk from the hospital. Hospital will pay for taxis (doesn’t feel safe walking to/from in the dark). Tamworth no longer provides car rental (unless on call) which was very inconvenient (groceries, if I ever wanted to go out/anywhere but work, etc). Overall I’d recommend the Paeds reg role at Tamworth. Not a lot to do in town! Haha but really nice team, good workload.

Regular locum ED SRMO 2020-2022 Tamworth will always be let down by its accommodation which is a shame as it's a well-run ED with incredible support for the locum. Fast track and acute areas both with multiple FACEMs on during the day, all who really support the locums because they depend on them and know they have to. Treated me like a regular member of the team and got to know me despite very much on and off shifts. CT and pathology 24 hours, plenty of other locums to chat to and generally a really nice environment and team to work in. The downside is it is generally very busy, and the accommodation for short stints can be shared bathroom style but for longer runs you can get put in a townhouse on your own which is quite homely and right near the hospital. Recommended.

Lovely ED to work in. Would definitely go back. Consultants are very supportive and good case mix. ED is nice and clean and feels good. Have heard that some of the accommodation can be horrible, however I was given my own apartment across the road and it had all the basics you’d need.
