Medical Resident Gig: Well supported by both consultants and registrars, well staffed teams with permanent JMOs who were able to acquaint me to the system having more experience themselves at NBH. Normal workload - did not require any extra time beyond the end of shift to finish jobs / tasks. Handover of tasks at end of shift easy with eMR system in place. Kyra (The eMR system) is quite similar to the one used at HNE hospitals if you are familiar. Would do this rotation again without any concerns if I were more interested in BPT type specialties.
Reasonable work load, currently in transition to NSLHD , uses kyra which sucks but regs and bosses are lovely.
Respiratory Medicine JMO Role: Relatively straightforward, content of the day is as you'd expect of any Medical ward JMO job. Regs are themselves occasionally locums, so often the other (Permanent) JMOs who are present around you in the hospital have the best idea of how to navigate the systems within the hospital. Respiratory consultants were all very friendly and approachable, did not feel any ivory tower apprehension about asking them for clarification regarding plans or for general input into patient care. Would complete this locum again if I were more interested in physician specialties / BPT specialties!
Really supportive registrar /co resi team. Theatre time if you're surgically keen.
Reasonable workload , 3 juniors in total , great registrar support
General Ward Night JMO Role: Cover is based on wards, each JMO generally assigned to one floor. Relatively constant stream of jobs over the course of the night, would not anticipate that at any time this role would allow for sleeping overnight given the stream. JMO Tasklist is easy to navigate and readily accessible, there is 1 Medical Registrar overnight and 3 JMOs, with ICU getting involved if there are any Rapid Responses. Generally quite low acuity, felt that the staffing and experience levels of the night team were appropriate for everything that popped up. Intending to do this job again.
Really supportive registrar /co resi team. Theatre time if you're surgically keen.
Reasonable worklaod - supportive reg Need more EMR support with Kyra - samsung phones do not support app usage
